Die-In to Save the ACA

  • Bloomington City Hall 401 North Morton Street Bloomington, IN, 47404 United States (map)

We will be dying-in on THURSDAY, 5/11 right before the TownHall Meeting where Trey has been invited but probably won't show. We believe this will garner more publicity to amplify the message to Trey that we are NOT HAPPY with his vote to repeal the ACA.
Show up at 5:30 to get organized, die from 6–6:30.

Come join us to let Trey Hollingsworth know what we think of his vote to repeal the ACA through replacement with a plan that will result in over 24 million Americans losing their healthcare, people with pre-existing conditions being priced out of the market, older adults paying 5x as much in premiums as their younger counterparts, slashing and block-granting medicaid—jeopardizing insurance coverage for millions and decimating the waiver system for people with disabilities, defunding Planned Parenthood, and giving a huge tax break to the richest Americans. THIS PLAN WILL LITERALLY KILL PEOPLE! So let's all show them what this will really look like. Join Call To Action, Monroe County NOW, and other groups for a "die-in". Come lay down, and have your tombstone-shaped sign let people know which part of the Republican "deathcare" plan killed you.

Details for 5/11/17: We will gather at the Showers Plaza in front of City Hall at 5:30, with the die-in starting at 6pm. Tombstones will be distributed to those who need them (so please RSVP if you are coming and post on this page if you will be bringing your own sign). We will review guidelines on how to deal with people who are oppositional or attempt to goad protesters into a confrontation (this is a PEACEFUL demonstration). At that point, those dying will lie down and hold our tombstones, letting people know how we died. Note that you can leave the demonstration whenever you need to. We can then join the Town Hall meeting starting at 6:30, if you are able to stay for it. We will be getting as many media outlets to cover this demonstraiton as possible, so you may be filmed or photographed during the course of the demonstration. If this is a problem, please let the organizers know and we will try to position you in an area less likely to be draw the media.

Stay tuned for more details here as we work them out!
